Testing Criteria

NVIHS has the most complete and robust testing parameters for the vape industry.  This includes testing for the individual components, such as the cartrdige itself, the terpenes, oil or vape juice.  Overall there are 24 total criteria we test for and assigned a pass/fail or overall score.

Flavonoids & Terpene Criteria

This criteria is established to test the safety and possible hazards of chemicals used to add flavour to vape cartridges know as flavonoids or terpineols.

The criteria includes testing for the following.

  1. Food Grade – Are the flavonoids/terpinols listed as food grade and safe to consume?
  2. FDA Approved – Are the flavonoids/terpinols FDA Approved?
  3. MSDS – Is the manufacturer able to provide a Safety Data Sheet?
  4. COA – Is the manufacturer able to provide a Certificate of Analysis.
  5. Terpineol Listing – A list of known and tested for terpene chemicals.

Vape Cartridge Criteria

This criteria is established to test the safety and possible hazards of vape cartridge or vaping system.  It include materials and chemicals, plus performance testing.

The criteria includes testing for the following.

  1. Metal or Ceramic – Are the cartridges made of metal, ceramic or combination of.
  2. Heavy Metal Testing – Do the cartridges contain any heavy metals?
  3. Temperature – At what temperature does the cartridge begin to degrade?

  5. OHM Testing – What is the OHM resistance of the cartridge test vs. declared.
  6. Leak Testing – What % of cartridges are found to be leaking from a representative sample.
  7. Shatter Testing – What % of cartridges are found to be prone to shattering via a drop test.

Toxicity & Safety Criteria

This criteria is established to test the safety and possible hazards of toxic chemicals, residual solvents and other harmful chemicals found in the finished oil, distillate or juice liquid.

The criteria includes testing for the following.

  4. Residual Adhesives Screen – Are there any measurable adhesives present.
  5. Vitamin E Acetate Screen – Is there any present. (Required in Florida)

Cannabinoids Testing Criteria

This criteria is established to test the total cannabinoids and percentage of each component.

The criteria includes testing for the following.

  1. Cannabinoids – We test for potency for 21 total cannabinoids, including Delta 9, Delta 8, CBD, CBN and many more.  Each test is conducted with 3 separate independent labs for consistency.  Each lab test is posted and available.

This criteria is established to test shelf stability of the product for long term safety and healthy limits.

The criteria includes testing for the following.

  1. Room Temperature Testing – All test units are kept at room temperature for over a month and tested for changes that are physical and/or chemical.
  2. High Temperature Testing – All test units are kept at high temperature over a limited time period and tested for changes that are physical and/or chemical.
  3. Light Exposure Testing – All test units are kept at high temperature over a month and tested for changes that are physical and/or chemical.
